How do you find the right group for you?
1. If you’ve come to Joshua Church with a friend, and they’re in a group already, ask if you can visit theirs. If their group’s location or demographic doesn’t work well for you, see if your friend can help you find a group that might be a better fit.
2. Grab a few small-group cards from our small-group display or check out the list of small groups below, when available.
3. Visit a Discipleship Community on the night that works best for your schedule. Discipleship Communities are typically held on the first full week of the month, Tuesday-Thursday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Joshua Church.
All our small groups are open, so we suggest you try out a few groups and find one that fits you well and has potential for developing friendship. If you’re visiting for the first time, it’s best to contact the group leader to verify what the group is up to that week.
What is Discipleship Community?
A Discipleship Community is a mid-sized gathering of all the Small Groups that meet on a given week night. It gives people the chance to build relationships with people outside of their Small Group without being overwhelmed by the large numbers of people at a Sunday service. You do not already need to be a part of a Small Group in order to attend a Discipleship Community, and it's a great way to meet people in the small group(s) you might be interested in visiting.
Discipleship Communities meet at Joshua Church for Bible teaching, worship, prayer, and connecting with friends; and a pastor introduces the monthly topic that groups will be discussing throughout the rest of the month.
Our Vision for Small Groups
Small groups are the life of our church and the key to our growth as individuals. Small groups meet weekly, Tuesday through Thursday, throughout the Austin area. Each group meets for about 2 hours, and we know people are busy, so our groups make sure to start and end on time.
The small group gathering usually begins with refreshments and socializing, followed by a discussion focused on life application of the Bible using the English Standard Version. If you’re visiting a small group, you’ll find that you can participate in the discussion as much or as little as you’d like, with any amount of familiarity with the Bible. Groups end the evening by taking some time to pray.
